We've been around for over thirty-five years,

HERE'S OUR STORY

BMP METALS: A COMPANY HISTORY

BMP was founded in 1984 by Robert and Lorraine Bedard and in its infancy was primarily a sheet metal shop. BMP enjoyed steady growth for many years with a focus on manufacturing high volume, low cost goods particularly in the telecommunications market.

Corporate acquisitions, quality certifications and continuous investment in capital expenditures for automation, CNC equipment and real time manufacturing software facilitated the company's advancement in manufacturing capabilities.

I would like to give special thanks to Gord Nicholls of BMP Metals.  His input, guidance, and depth of knowledge were instrumental in the development of meticulous, detailed proposal for an Advanced Manufacturing Education Facility designed to meet the needs of the 21st Century learner.  With over 30 years of industry experience in the manufacturing sector, and 10-plus years as a mentor for HDSB FIRST Robotics, Gord has a finger on the pulse of 21st century manufacturing, and a thorough understanding of Technological Education.

I am studying Aerospace Mechanical Engineering at Confederation College. Without robotics I probably wouldn’t have applied to study anything engineering or robotics related, but since I was exposed to CNC machining, turning and milling I was able to choose the career path that suited my learning and what I enjoyed the most at school.  BMP helped me personally by offering me a co-op during the summer and that really solidified what I wanted to do after high school. I learned how to use Solidworks and Mastercam together to create parts and models of machines that would be used in projects around the shop and I learned about the processes of design, modeling, machining and product control. It was a great experience and overall impacted my career choice. Thank you so much.

Aerospace Mechanical Engineering

Hi my name is Jakob and I am a first year student studying aerospace manufacturing engineering technology at confederation college. Robotics has had quite a big influence on my decision to [enroll in the] program as we learned many advanced practices.  The sponsorship that BMP provided us with has shown me the kind of quality that is used in [the] industry and made me want to learn how to cut to that level of quality and accuracy consistently.

My name is Ahmad, I was part of the Garth Webb robotics team during its founding year in 2015. I am now completing my third [year] in Integrated Engineering at the University of Western Ontario.  Robotics allowed me to excel [in] many different skills, all essential to my education, program, and career. Being exposed to all the industry level processes, standards, machines, and tools gave me a sharp advantage over my peers at the university level.  Of course, none of this would be possible without the sponsorship and guidance we received from BMP metals, which enabled us to participate competitively on the provincial and even international level.

Hello, my name is Heather and I will be studying psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. I can honestly say that being a part of first robotics has given me so many opportunities.  Without the many contributions of BMP, we would not have been able to compete or even build the robots we have. Thanks to them, the students involved are able to perform to their fullest potential and are able to use the experiences learned in many different situations. Thank you kindly for your support.
